Contractors Edmund Nuttall recently carried out safety work on Berths 8 & 9 at Dover Docks. The end dolphins of the ferry berths had timber fenders added ‘in case a ferry gets a little out of control’. The timber absorbs the shock of any impact, protecting the concrete berth and the vessel, and thereby minimising any potential damage.
When Ruth Creamer, Section Engineer at Edmund Nuttall needed a product to fix the timber to the concrete, she called in Ashford-based V.J. Technology Ltd, a major manufacturer and distributor of fixings, fasteners and tools. VJT’s technical salesman recommended their high performance pure epoxy resin – the HPE 385 – and 250mm stainless steel Chemical Anchor Studs.
The resin had to deliver superior performance and be cost-effective. As the tide rises and falls several feet in The Channel the resin also had to work in wet conditions. Ruth Creamer commented: “The team at V.J. Technology were very helpful and their service was excellent. At site level their technical capability is invaluable. And their HPE 385 Resin really does deliver the results.”
Ross Bartlett, VJT’s Technical Salesman for the Kent region added: "VJT has a range of resins that are manufactured exclusively for us in Germany by one of the most innovative chemical companies in the world. It was quite an experience watching giant timbers being fixed to the concrete berths. Our resin, and the studs which we manufacture, are holding it together. That’s great."
