Port Lympne Wildlife Park, part of the Howlett's Wildlife Trust, is expanding yet again. A new area called the Africa Experience is being developed by the in-house building and maintenance team. And a giraffe enclosure forms a key element of this exciting themed wildlife park.
With giraffes standing up to 18 feet tall the challenge was to construct a secure enclosure which didn't obstruct the public's view of these wonderful animals. Ron Kent, Project Manager at Port Lympne Wildlife Park, explains: "We want our visitors to feel as close to nature as possible, but we also have a duty to make them feel completely safe at all times. Giraffes are powerful creatures so the enclosure's perimeter has to be capable of withstanding considerable pressure."
Consulting engineers Structural Design Services (South East) Ltd were appointed and recommended V.J. Technologys 'Express Cure' EC410 Resin with M20 Chemical Anchor Studs to fix the steelwork to the concrete base. The performance of EC410 gives considerable safety margins over and above the required loading, making it the ideal solution.
Ron Kent added: "We have been very impressed with V.J. Technology. They spent a considerable amount of time helping us with the more technical elements and when we ordered their service was first class with everything we wanted delivered the next day. I like being able to buy all my fixings, fasteners and tools from the same place. It just makes life so much easier."
V.J. Technology is a local company, headquartered in Ashford, Kent. It is one of the largest independent manufacturers and distributors of fixings, fasteners, and hand and power tools for the construction and civil engineering industries.
