Manchester MPT: Value Engineered Solution for Lifting Beams
Lifting Beams
The original enquiry from the MPT site was to test lifting loops, but it soon became apparent that this not as simple as it sounded.
The challenge was to lift the rail bridge beams with existing rebar loops that dated from the original construction of the beams. These re bar loops had been protected by ‘pitch’ for many decades but the integrity of the loops was largely unknown.
Derek Thompson, VJT Technical Salesman, and Graham Slaughter VJT Technical Manager engineered and manufactured a test adapter to enable hydraulic tension testing of the loops.
To the relief of all, every anchor met the load requirements and the beams were safely lifted from site.
